AI journal, aka screaming into the void
These are my largely unfiltered thoughts on AI.
You probably don't want to read this. Perhaps more than anything else on this website, this is not written for public consumption. I promise neither insight nor originality.
- AI brings together pretty much everything I hate most about this industry: hype, consolidation of computing power into the hands of a few private corporations,
wanton unleashing of harmful technology onto the world with no real regard for consequences, extreme fatalism ("you can't stop it"), quantity over quality,
dehumanization of both those using AI and those upon whom it is inflicted.
- If you use AI a lot it is probably giving you brain damage, and I can see it. I can see you getting dumber, and I am alternatingly filled with pity and disgust.
- Stop fucking sending me whatever you copypasted from AI, it makes you seem like a moron.
- If UNIX/C are "worse is better", AI is "absolute trash is best."
- The promise of AI is that it will free us up to do the hard work, the real thinking, the stuff that can't be automated. In reality it mostly just enables us
to scramble around idiotically even faster.
